Through my Lens

Welcome!

Hello, I’m Michelle—a seasoned photographer, traveller, and storyteller, inspired by character, connection, and the great outdoors.

My work is about more than just taking photos. I create images that feel natural, expressive, and full of life—whether it’s a dog doing what they love, a boat drifting on the water, or the quiet warmth of a beautiful stay.

With formal training from Newcastle College and Northumbria University, I’ve spent 20+ years behind the lens, photographing everything from surf schools and portraits, weddings to interiors and environmental campaigns, and all the people that make these happen.

Over time, I’ve developed a calm, intuitive style that helps
people and animals feel at ease, making space for honest, relaxed storytelling.

Published Work

My photography has featured in major UK publications through my role as in-house photographer and filmmaker for City to Sea, where I also produced award-winning social media films—back before it was trending.

With a background in creative direction and years of professional experience, I’ve helped hospitality brands build recognition through visuals that truly connect.

How I Work

I keep things relaxed, real, and tailored to the subject—whether it's sandy paws, salty sails, or sunlit interiors.

🐶 Dog portraits: Curious about what to expect? Head to the Dogs in Focus page.

🏡 Property photography: Explore the Stays & Spaces section.

🏄 Surfschool owner?: Check out my adventure page.

⛵️ Boats: I’m keen to shoot them —get in touch for yours to be the first!

No matter what I’m shooting, the aim is the same: to create vibrant, character-filled images that feel like the moment, not a performance.

Why it Matters

After many years working full-time in photography, including five as an in-house photographer and Creative Director, I stepped back. Then lockdown hit, and like many, I changed direction. My camera gathered dust. So did my rucksack.

A chance moment early in 2025, sharing my old portfolio, brought it all back. I remembered what I loved about this work and how good it felt to do it. Around the same time, a TikTok video (of all things!) nudged me toward what I already knew: it was time to return. And go on adventures doing so!

In the last few years, four people I worked closely with at different times have all lost their lives - way to early - to cancer.

Life can be to short not to do the things you love.
